Optics of aqueous humor

In terms of optics, aqueous humor is important because it helps to refract light as it enters the eye. Specifically, the refractive index of the aqueous humor is about 1.336, which is lower than that of the cornea. This difference in refractive indices helps to bend the light rays as they pass through the eye, allowing them to focus on the retina and form a clear image.

The shape and position of the lens within the eye also affect the way that light is refracted. The aqueous humor helps to maintain the position of the lens and to provide the appropriate amount of pressure on the lens to allow it to change shape as needed for focusing.

In summary, aqueous humor contributes to the overall optical properties of the eye, helping to refract light and maintain the appropriate shape and position of the lens for clear vision.
